One of the hottest items of discussion during the 2004 Annual Convention in Reno was the growing uncertainty of travel worldwide. From global terrorism, to the realignment of Eastern Europe and Asia, to the on going changes in Africa and the Middle East, it was obvious a problem was developing.

Realizing the issues of hunting in today's global societies and it's commitment to being First For Hunters on a worldwide basis, Safari Club International turned to it's 20 year relationship with the Lechner & Stauffer Insurance Agency for a solution.

Lechner and Stauffer has engaged Allianz Global Assistance (AGA Service Company) to offer travel insurance and protection. Allianz Global Assistance is a unit of Allianz, one of the world’s largest financial services and insurance companies. Allianz Global Assistance has operations in 28 countries around the world, enabling them to provide unparalleled emergency travel assistance to customers of leading travel agencies, airlines, tour operators and other travel suppliers. Allianz Global Assistance has tailored this exclusive program to include “hunting specific” needs such as a destination government banning the hunting of specific animals, or a destination governmental closure of a hunting concession or reserve.

Next, SCI corporate sponsor Global Rescue was added to the mix, creating the best travel protection program on the market today. Hunters have their choice of purchasing a medical evacuation membership from either MedjetAssist or Global Rescue.

Global Rescue also provides medical evacuation services through a prepaid membership program and offers additional benefits that no other worldwide evacuation service is capable of. First and foremost for hunters is Global Rescue’s unique Field Rescue capability. Global Rescue has teams of special operations personnel and paramedics and networks of helicopters deployable anywhere to rescue their members at the point of injury, transport them to an initial hospital for stabilization, and then evacuate them back home via private, medically equipped, CAMTS (Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems) – accredited aircraft. Through an exclusive relationship with Johns Hopkins Medicine, the nation’s top hospital, Global Rescue members are provided with the expertise of some of the world’s finest physicians. Transportation to the member’s home hospital of choice is provided at no cost to any member who has a condition requiring hospitalization and is at least 160 miles from home.

In addition to the rescue and evacuation services for medical emergencies, Global Rescue is the only service to provide evacuations for security related reasons, such as war, civil unrest, coup d'état, or natural disasters. Utilizing the same military special forces teams and helicopter and fixed wing air assets used for field rescues and medical evacuations, Global Rescue will provide security evacuations for members who have opted for their enhanced medical and security membership. These services are available whenever there is an official government declaration to evacuate the area or the member faces grievous bodily harm. These security services are absolutely essential for hunters traveling to areas where the potential for uprising, violence or natural disaster becomes a concern.

The MedjetAssist plan, is a prepaid, air medical transportation program created to provide affordable, high quality air ambulance service to it's members. MedjetAssist transports members globally, to a hospital of their choice, without regard to medical necessity or cost. Aircraft operated by MedjetAssist's authorized affiliates operate as flying intensive care units capable of carrying not only the critical care patient, but also a family member along with a three or four person medical team. The teams are trained in advance cardiac care and trauma life support, emergency and critical care medicine at altitude, as well as pediatric and neonatal care.
